Variations on an Ascending Chromatic Scale a score Each grid below is a variation on an ascending chromatic scale. The vertical axis represents 12 pitches that evenly span a major 7th (a traditional chromatic scale), and the horizontal axis represents 12 equal time durations (beats). A black square is sounded, a white square is silent. Horizontally-adjacent black squares indicate a sustain, not a re-articulation. Performers can choose any collection of variations to play. The choices of the specific octave, tempo, dynamic, and instrumentation are up to the performers, but should remain consistent throughout the performance. I will be adding new variations from time to time. An ascending chromatic scale Tesselations Chords Letters, numbers, symbols, etc. Homages |
